Modern Family Stars Get Stuck in Crowded Elevator

No good deed goes unpunished.

PICS: Candid Celeb Sightings

While on their way to a fundraiser for the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Kansas City on Friday night, three stars of ABC's hit sitcom Modern Family were trapped in a crowded elevator for almost an hour, ABC News reports.

Julie Bowen, Eric Stonestreet and Jesse Tyler Ferguson took pictures together during the ordeal, which Ferguson posted to his Twitter account.

"This is us right now. 45 minutes stuck in this elevator," Ferguson wrote, captioning the snapshot from the Sheraton Kansas City Hotel's third floor.

The actors were an hour late to the event after the Kansas City Fire Department rescued them, but they maintained a good sense of humor about their plight, reportedly joking about the ordeal on stage.

Ellen DeGeneres Pens Open Letter to Supreme Court to Pass Prop 8 for Gay Marriage

With a touch of her trademark humor, Ellen DeGeneres tackles a very serious topic close to the talk show host's heart: gay marriage.

In an open letter posted to her website, Ellen reaches out to members of the Supreme Court, who will soon decide the fate of same-sex couples who wish to wed.

Pics: 'Amazing Race' Stars Cheer Up Bullied Gay Fan

"Portia and I have been married for 4 years and they have been the happiest of my life," she blogs of her longtime partner Portia De Rossi. "And in those 4 years, I don't think we hurt anyone else's marriage. I asked all of my neighbors and they say they're fine."

Ellen, who tied the knot in 2008 during a brief period when gay marriage was legal in California, now urges the powers that be to open their heart and extend the privilege to every gay couple.

"I hope the Supreme Court will do the right thing, and let everyone enjoy the same rights," Ellen writes. "It's going to help keep families together. It's going to make kids feel better about who they are. And it is time."

In closing the comedian writes, "In the words of Benjamin Franklin, 'We're here, we're queer, get over it.'"

Bieber's Mom on Son's Tattoos and Her New Movie

Many tweets and Facebook posts have been made regarding Justin Bieber's tattoos, but how does the pop star's mom Pattie Mallette feel about the new ink? ET found out in a new sit-down.

PICS: Regrettable Celebrity Tattoos

"That's one of those things that I don't necessarily have to like," said Mallette, acknowledging that, at 18, her son is legally an adult. "He's going to make his own decisions."

Mallette examines heavy life decisions in a short film that she executive produced called Crescendo, which she described as being very relatable to her own life experiences.

"It's a historical piece on Beethoven's mother," said Mallette. "She actually tried to take her life when she was pregnant with Beethoven."

In Mallette's memoir, Nowhere But Up, she reveals that she attempted suicide by throwing herself in the path of an oncoming truck as a teenager. Shortly thereafter, she found out that she was pregnant with Bieber and gave birth to him despite outside pressure to have an abortion.

Mallette hopes the film will encourage those in similar situations.

"The only reason that I'm involved in this project is to help young girls," said Mallette.

Crescendo is holding 100 screenings on February 28 with the hope of raising $10 million for pregnancy centers across the country. To learn more go to CPCmovie.com.

Prince Michael Uncovers Oz the Great and Powerful Casting Secrets

While on his first assignment as an ET correspondent, Michael Jackson's 16-year-old son Prince Michael got the scoop on who else was in the running with James Franco for the lead role in Oz the Great and Powerful.

PICS: Bewitching Oz the Great & Powerful Posters

Despite director Sam Raimi's decade-long friendship with Franco (they worked together on the Spider-Man trilogy), Raimi revealed that he initially didn't even consider the 34-year-old actor for the part.

"When I first read the script, I heard that Robert Downey Jr. was attached to star in it," said Raimi. "I met with Robert a few times. It turned out not to be right for him. And then briefly Johnny Depp considered the project. It turned out not to be right for him either. And then I heard that James had read it and liked it, and I hadn't even thought of James."

Franco's reactions to Raimi's comments suggest that he was hearing this for the first time.

"What?" Franco said with a chuckle.

The movie imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum's beloved character from The Wizard of Oz. After Oscar Diggs (Franco) is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he first thinks he's hit the jackpot -- until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone's been expecting.

Oz the Great and Powerful hits theaters March 8.

Emma Stone and Nicolas Cage Get Animated for The Croods Movie

Emma Stone will soon make her very first foray into the world of CGI with DreamWorks' caveman comedy The Croods, and the starlet tells ET that the project got her animated in every sense of the word.

"I didn't really realize that there was going to be so much movement playing an animated character," laughs Stone about lending her voice to adventurous teen cavegirl Eep in the film. "It was pretty fun."

Pics: Stars on Set

In fact, Eep's rambunctious zest for life made accepting the role, opposite Nicolas Cage and Ryan Reynolds, a no-brainer for the actress.

"I liked her rebellion and I liked her strength physically," said Stone, who adds that she was especially impressed by Eep "being able to physically pull people over her shoulder" as cave people are apt to do. "There's a lot I could relate to about her."

Mindy McCready Dies of Apparent Suicide

A source confirms to ET that country music singer Mindy McCready has died. She was 37 years old.

RELATED: Stars We Lost

Her death is allegedly the result of an apparent suicide, according to FOX reporter Stacy McCloud.

McCready had attempted suicide before, having been hospitalized in 2008 after she cut her wrists and took several pills. Her passing follows the shooting death of boyfriend David Wilson on January 13.

Wilson, a record producer, was initially rushed to the hospital after suffering a reported self-inflicted gunshot wound that did not immediately kill him. McCready recalled how she discovered him after the shooting in an interview on NBC's Today. "I just started screaming, calling 911. I laid down next to him and just pleaded with him not to die." The singer said Wilson "was responding" after the shooting, but only making sounds, not words. McCready was admitted to an in-patient facility weeks later.

After she was admitted, a rep for the star gave ET this statement: "While taking appropriate, much needed and deserved time to grieve, [McCready's] sons have been placed in foster homes where they are comfortable and cared for. We have no further statement at this time."

McCready had several successful country albums in the '90s, but her career was later overshadowed by domestic abuse issues and drug and DUI arrests.

In 2011, McCready was reported to have gone missing with her oldest child, who was under the custody of McCready's mother at the time. During the episode, McCready posted a Facebook message, writing, "FB Friends I know it has been a long time since you have heard from me... I have been fighting the Florida court system to protect my son, and bring him home. Wink TV has once again reported nothing but lies and they are most likely being supported by the attorney for DCF child services. There is NO AMBER ALERT and my son is not missing! Detectives from the Cape Coral Police department established that this afternoon via Skype. Please do not worry or support anything they continue to lie about!! Thanks Always.... Mindy"

McCready is survived by her two sons: 6-year-old Zander (fathered by ex Billy McKnight) and 9-month-old Zayne (who she had with now-deceased boyfriend David Wilson).

Simon Baker Gets Star on Walk of Fame

Today was a very special Valentine's Day for Simon Baker, as he received the 2, 490th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

PICS: Candid Celeb Sightings

"It's about inspiration -- not for me, but for anyone else," said Baker when asked what the honor meant to him. "Nine out of ten people might walk across that star and not know who my name is, but someone might come along and it might inspire them."

As a young actor, Baker drew on the inspiration of those around him to gain the confidence needed to get to where he is today.

"Like a lot of young actors, I was filled with self-doubt," said The Mentalist star. "I was incredibly fortunate to meet people who believed in me more than I believed in myself."

Perhaps his biggest supporter was his wife Rebecca, whom he wed in 1998.

"My wife once gave me a card that said, 'Opportunity, having knocked, moves on.' And the most important opportunity that I took advantage of in my life was marrying her," Baker said before kissing his wife who was in attendance.

Artists You Should Know: Emeli Sande

British recording artist and songwriter Emeli Sandé is already making waves in the UK and hopes to become the latest in a growing list of British musicians that have taken over the world in recent times. Her debut album Our Version of Events is the UK's biggest selling album of 2012 and with her lyrically rich songs powered by an incredible voice, I have no doubt she is the next Global superstar. I recently chatted with Emeli before her gig at the ChapStick Sessions Concert in partnership with MySpace. Check out our full interview below and be sure to watch the concert footage above for a special performance of her latest single, Next To Me.

PICS: Candid Celeb Sightings

ETonline: You are one of music's rising stars, have a number one album (UK) for Our Version of Events, sang at the open and closing of the Olympics, and a new hit single Next To Me, how has the ride to fame been for you?

Emeli: It definitely feels surreal. It's been an incredible year and so much has happened that I didn't expect to happen so quickly. It's definitely been the type of year that you dream about as a kid so I'm very happy.

How much would you say your life has changed?

Dramatically it's definitely changed a lot. But I try to keep grounded by just focusing on the music so that part hasn't changed. But day to day it's so busy and you have less and less time to have alone and to write but it's all good that's why you do it in the first place.

A lot of wonderful talent has emerged from the UK in recent years so I've got to ask you, what's in the water over there??

(Laughs) Yeah I'm not sure! It feels like a really good time and I'm really proud to be part of this kind of new generation of musicians that are doing something quite creative. I think we all feel kind of free to experiment with different genres and it's such a small place so we all know each other and can learn from one another.

Tell me about your writing process. Are certain types of songs more easily driven by a lyric or music?

Sometimes when I play something on piano, the tone of it can inspire a feeling. But usually it's a concept that will pop in to my mind or a phrase or if I'm reading something it will spark something or a different way of thinking about the same subject. Usually it's the words but sometimes when I sit at the piano it all falls into place.

What would you say is your favorite lyric you've ever written?

I really like "when the floor is more familiar than the ceiling," just because whenever I sing that lyric I imagine somebody stuck to the floor, someone stuck to the ceiling. I've always been inspired by people that can make you see things so clearly with few words. And that's what I try to channel when I'm writing.

Is there any artist you're hoping to collaborate with in the future? Who are you currently listening to?

I think Drake is amazing lyrically; he's really doing something different I think. I love Frank Ocean as well. There's a lot of new people too, Ed Sheeran ... there's a lot of people I think are great. I love Rihanna, everyone does, and I think what she's doing is very honest and I really respect that.

Jillian Michaels Defends Melissa McCarthy From Critic Who Called Her a Hippo

America's toughest trainer is taking a stand against a film critic who called actress Melissa McCarthy a "hippo."

"It's evil," says Jillian Michaels of comments pointed towards McCarthy's weight in Rex Reed's scathing review of Identity Thief. "It's just plain cruelty and it's unnecessary."

Pics: Star Sightings

While promoting her book Slim For Life (out today), Michaels, who struggled with body issues as an adolescent, tells ET that Reed's words could hurt other women who are also plus-sized.

"That kind of prejudice is wrong in every possible way," she argues. "I'm here to say when you do things like that, it's spreading harm and it's hurtful and it's prejudice."

Related: 'Identity Thief' Cast Extols Melissa McCarthy

Today Reed finally spoke out about the controversy, telling WOR Radio in New York that his piece was in no way a personal attack against the actress.

"My review was really more about the movie and about the character [McCarthy] plays than it is about her," he said. "I don't care how much she weighs."

Is 'Beautiful Creatures' the Next 'Twilight'?

Is it fair -- or accurate -- to call Beautiful Creatures the next Twilight? Sure, both tales feature sparring supernatural beings and forbidden love between a mysterious individual and a young mortal, but that's where the comparisons seem to end. Now, the stars of the film – including Emmy Rossum, Alice Englert, Alden Ehrenreich, Thomas Mann and Zoey Deutch – weigh in on the comparison.

Pics: Role Call -- The Latest Casting in Hollywood

In theaters Valentine's Day, Beautiful Creatures follows the story of Ethan (played by Alden), a young man longing to escape his small town, and Lena (played by Alice), the new girl with a dark secret – she comes from a family of witches (they prefer the term "casters"). When she turns 16 her powers will be claimed by either the forces of light or darkness, and with only weeks before her birthday, the two lovers are caught in a tug-of-war between good and evil. Set in the spooky south, the film is based on the first novel in the best-selling series by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl.

Jerry Lewis Max Rose Set Visit

Hollywood legend Jerry Lewis explores the dignity of aging, the value of family, and the power of marriage in his new movie Max Rose. The octogenarian star exclusively shares a day on the set of the upcoming film with ET, and also gives our young interviewer Tatiana Toomer a hard time – just for the fun of it.

Pics: 13 Must-See Movies of 2013

Asked to explain his character in the film, he replies, "You want to hear about that? Buy at ticket." Tatiana then tries another approach and asks him to describe the scene they're shooting that day. He jokes, "Today is the day I operate on my own appendix."

The man with a self-proclaimed reputation "that says I'm not easy" was, however, quick to praise his Max Rose director Daniel Noah along with the hard-working crew. He was also happy to talk about his upcoming birthday.

"Eight-seven, baby! I'm going to have a bottle of Dom Perignon and I'm going to pour champagne for my daughter and my wife and me and my puppies," says Jerry about his upcoming March celebration. "Like New Year's, every year we go to bed about 20 minutes to 10. We look at one another and say, 'Well, after 35 years I'm still crazy nuts over you.' And we give one another a kiss and we go to bed."

Max Rose follows the story of an 82-year old jazz pianist and recent widower who revisits key moments in his life when a discovery, made days before his wife's death, causes him to believe his marriage was a lie. Claire Bloom, Kevin Pollak, Kerry Bishé, Mort Sahl, Lee Weaver, Rance Howard, Fred Willard and Dean Stockwell also star.

"It's got action, animation, truth, sensitivity, honesty, a wonderful cast of wonderful actors and a crew that's the best you ever saw in your life," says Jerry. "They are so nice and so good that I work my heart out so that I don't come up empty, because they deserve more."

Video: Meryl Streep 'Hope Springs' Bloopers

Prompted to reflect on his legacy, Jerry quipped, "My legacy? I don't believe in legacies. I believe that if you want to say something good about me, do it while I can I can hear it."

He then added, "I don't like to have to go back and remember what's gone. I'd rather go forward anticipating what's coming, and I know that this film, if I know anything about the work, we're going to shake up some people, because it has an emotional nub to it."
